A large, modern building in a city of older ones — Pullman announces itself without apology, right on the edge of the old town with the cobblestones starting just outside the door. From the moment you arrive, everything works: check-in is quick, the lobby moves you forward rather than asking you to linger. The room is spacious and sober — good materials, a view over a park, the kind of room that doesn’t ask anything of you. What Pullman does best is disappear: it gives you a comfortable, reliable base and then gets out of the way, with the old town at the door and nothing between you and it.

Hotel Gutenbergs

Doma laukums 1 · deep inside Vecrīga

Gutenbergs sits in an old building on a street that looks like it hasn’t changed in a few hundred years — you can’t be more in the old town than this, and the address is part of the experience before you’ve stepped inside. This isn’t a hotel that removes friction; it has character instead. The stairs have personality, the room has corners. Ours was a top-floor attic — sloping floors, small windows, an old-fashioned plan that wouldn’t make sense anywhere else and makes complete sense here. It’s a hotel that’s part of the experience, not just a place to sleep: quirky, characterful, and hard to forget. It asks a little more of you than a standard room, and gives a little more back.

Hotel Justus

Jauniela 24 · in the middle of Vecrīga

Hotel Justus is another old-town address in the middle of Vecrīga, a little quieter from the street. The building has character — the architecture and the history carry through the door from the moment you walk in. It’s a touch more neutral and a touch more conventional in layout: the room has character without making demands. Atmospheric, but settled and easy to come back to — the feel of the old town, with a little more predictability.
